ABOUT VIDEO

To get a halfway up to date movie in the 90s, you had to visit this gloriously rancid place called a video store. Video cassettes could be borrowed there for a fee. Don't forget to rewind, otherwise it costs extra.

Video editing took place with several recorders. But the cassettes were bulky and took up a lot of space. That's why I was happy when the topic finally shifted to the computer. With MiniDV and FireWire, everything became more compact and convenient.

I bought a small MiniDV camcorder for a study visit to the United States at the beginning of 2000. The first films shown here were made with this device, which explains the somewhat poor picture quality.

This is due to the technical limits of that technology. No depth of field, no autofocus, no high definition. I still have to withhold all this from you. For now, there is only one interlaced digital video signal.

Nevertheless, digital editing on computers brings video production to a whole new level. In combination with 3D and special effects software, reality can be completely formed and liquefied.

The software packages offer almost unlimited possibilities. Together with the new generations of digital cameras, spectacular image worlds can be created. These options must be explored in the future.
